Here are some short extracts from reviews from Trip Advisor and Holiday Check.

ON THE STAFF:

"Having spent a great holiday at this hotel last year, this year was just as good. We were greeted like family and it was amazing how the staff remember guests from year to year....  The guys at the beach bar restaurant were wonderful, supplying us ladies with rubber gloves filled with ice to cool us down when it was very hot."
( TripAdvisor.com Henry2525 24 June 2013 )

"The service in the hotel is five star plus. Absolutely all of the staff are friendly and helpful. German at the front desk okay, but with English it worked very well. A few phrases in Arabic loosens the mood....  At first we (were given) a room with a pool view but on request received one with a sea view.  Also the room cleaned daily, a little tip helps certainly further."
( HolidayCheck.com Uwe March 2013 )

"This is the second time we have stayed at the Lamaya, and once again, the holiday was made excellent by the overall ability of all the staff, from cleaners up to senior managers.  We had a small problem on the first day, but this was resolved very very quickly."
( TripAdvisor.com 11 May 2012 )

"The service was perfect, no problem at all.  And the staff are so kind, they aren't just staff, they are your friends."
( TripAdvisor.com 14 April 2012 )

"What makes this place amazing is the staff.  They are some of the nicest, most attentive, friendly, funny and genuinely warm people that we have ever had the pleasure of meeting."
( TripAdvisor.com 11 April 2012 )

"The service was always with a smile, no matter what time of day and is very friendly and accommodating. The animation team is wonderful and not pushy at all......Saying good bye was very difficult and we would gladly come again. "
( HolidayCheck.com Susanne March 2012 )

"The staff were unbelievably nice: always merry, friendly and attentive."
( HolidayCheck.com Mirjam & Thomas February 2012 )

"The waiters and the chefs who patrol the dining room are really friendly and love to chat if they have the time. Look out for a chef called Tareq, who loves to chat and takes pleasure in explaining what the different foods are. A waiter, named Abu, does a neat trick with a cup and saucer, and caught me on four or five occasions."
( TripAdvisor 15 February 2009 )

" if a leaf falls there is somebody to sweep it up straightaway! one day a gardener saw me smelling some flowers and he brought me the same flower every day leaving it on my balcony for the rest of the holiday."
( TripAdvisor 1 January 2009 )

ON THE FOOD:

"The food is very good (but) the presentation (could) be a bit better but is OK. There is always grilled fish, pasta station and freshly prepared (food). For breakfast an egg station and so on....   Cleanliness and hygiene were perfect."
( HolidayCheck.com Uwe March 2013 )

"The food (I had been worried it would be the same every day) was excellent and there was such a variety that there really was something for all tastes."
( TripAdvisor.com 4 May 2012 )

"The food in the buffet restaurant was nice, with a different barbecue option each night and the daily theme seemed to be repeated each week, although this was not a problem as there was always something to accompany all tastes.  We never struggled to get a table, although the hotel didn't appear to be full during our stay."
( TripAdvisor.com 11 April 2012 )

"The food for me was great. I am a veggie and generally struggle. Most days there was a really good meal awaiting me and even if the vast spread was mostly meat there is always pasta cooked freshly for you. The chefs are fun, friendly and helpful as are the waiters."
( TripAdvisor.com 30 March 2012 )

"The food was good, i recommend the freshly cooked meat on the bbq outside, there's a different meat every night.  The lamb was top banana!  There's always something you fancy if not just pop over to kids corner for chicken and chips!"
( TripAdvisor 27 December 2008 )

ON THE BEACH AND SEA:  Generally positive although not everyone completely happy with the beach.

"The beach did not have much sand and because of coral protection you could not walk directly into the sea from near the hotel, but instead use the jetty or you had to walk a bit further around the bay where you could just walk into the sea.  Plenty of sunbeds and fixed parasols available.  The house reef is good with a lot of variety of fish and good showing of coral. Access to this is via the jetty."
( TripAdvisor.com 10 May 2012 )

"One downside to us what that you cannot swim directly from the beach because of the coral and so you either have to walk around towards the Coraya hotel or go in from the jetty."
( TripAdvisor 11 April 2012 )

"The beach is a mixture of sand and gravel. If you want to spend a day on the beach, you should take a wind protector - a large number are available. We would not recommend this hotel for swimming as you can only access the sea via a jetty or by a walk to the other side of the bay but for snorkeling or diving it is wonderful."
( HolidayCheck.com Manfred & Lydia February 2012 )

"The variety of fish in the sea is simply amazing. We snorkelled nearly every day and never got bored with it. "
( TripAdvisor 22 December 2008 )

"The beach is fairly coarse sand, and we would recommend taking some beach shoes as it was uncomfortable underfoot."
 ( TripAdvisor 30 January 2009 )

ON THE ROOMS

"We had a family room, size absolutely sufficient. All rooms had either balcony or terrace. The bathroom has a large shower, no bathtub...  Hair dryer is available. The furniture is alright, the bed comfortable and large enough. In addition the family rooms have two single beds... The closet is large enough for two... Daily there was a new bottle of water... the mini bar is well stocked, but you have to pay. A kettle is also available, and tea/coffee available....  Our roomboy Akram (surprised) us every day with a new towel decoration and even (provided) flowers for the room."
( HolidayCheck.com Uwe March 2013 )

"The room was a good size, a family room but just the two of us.  Air con was essential but unfortunately a little noisy, there was a bit of a smell when you entered which soon disappeared once some air circulation took place.  Rooms were very clean."
( TripAdvisor.com 10 May 2012 )

"Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking both beach and pools."
( TripAdvisor 4 May 2012 )

ON THE GARDENS AND GROUNDS

"The grounds are unbelievable. There are literally staff wandering around to pounce on any loose rubbish and the maintenance is ongoing whilst unobtrusive."
( TripAdvisor.com 30 March 2012 )

OVERALL

"First time to visit Egypt and will definitely be going back. The hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff are very polite and helpful........For those expecting five star you may be disappointed but for the price you pay compared to other five star hotels it offers excellent value and service and we will definitely be returning."
( TripAdvisor.com 13 May 2012 )

"Just back from Iberotel Lamaya Resort in Marsa Alam and what a great experience.  The hotel was the best we have stayed at in Egypt having stayed at others in and around Sharm.  If you want value for money, relaxing all inclusive holiday in the sun ( it rarely rains ) with very good snorkelling you won't go far wrong."
( TripAdvisor.com 10 May 2012 )

"If you're looking for somewhere to get away for some relaxation in the sun then the Lamaya is definitely worth a look !"
( TripAdvisor.com 11 April 2012 )

"Will be doing all I can to save for another stay later this year. Can't recommend this hotel enough"
( TripAdvisor.com 30 March 2012 )

"We are the eleventh time in Lamaya and will go back."
( HolidayCheck.com Holger March 2012 )

"For us Lamaya is a second home.....Simply super. Snorkeling with two dolphins was the best moment."
( HolidayCheck.com Jurgen March 2012 )
