On the food
- most guests more than happy

"What we most enjoyed was the theme food : it was always excellent and really deserved 5 stars !!!"
( TripAdvisor 4 August 2008 )

"We had no bad tummy's and the food was fantastic even the children
ate, ate and ate all day long. There is always something to eat and
drink"
( Yahoo Travel 25 January 2007 )

On the rooms - mixed

"The room was nice, clean and the fridge was filled with softdrinks
( but the ) beds were so hard you could better sleep on the floor. The airconditioning unit was built in the time that Cleopatra was still alive. What a noise it made. Turning off was no option cause of the heat. "
( TripAdvisor 28 July 2008 )

On the Health Club -  A scathing guest review on one masseur's technique is probably not representative of most guests' experiences as several made more favourable comments.

"He put so much oil on my back that I thought that his hands would land on the other side of the Red Sea. He ran like the TGV with his hands over my back while I came for a Relaxing-massage."
( TripAdvisor 28 July 2008 )

Another much happier guest, describing the hotel as "heaven", raved  that  "the
massages are out of this world."
( TripAdvisor 30 December 2007 )

On the pool and beach - mixed

" The hotel has two jetty's which run either side of a coral reef which was fantastic for snorkelling. The amount of different types of fish was incredible."
( TripAdvisor 3 May 2008 )

"We had every single day an early rise (5.45 Egyptian time) to reserve beds at the pool otherwise you were not able to get the ones you prefered."
( TripAdvisor 20 July 2008 )

On the staff -  Most guests very appreciative

"We've just got back from one of the best holidays we've ever had,
and that says alot when your taking 4 boys aged from 2 to 10!! Our
youngest son has Coeliacs disease and the hotel staff we fantastic..........they accomodated his every need, they even cooked him his own food if the buffet selection wasn't to his liking."
( TripAdvisor 3 July 2008 )

"The staff were so friendly and nearly all of them spoke fluent English and they really made the holiday. One of our waiter's Ahmed the Assistant Captain was exceptional, he had a table waiting for us and our drinks ready almost every night and was always smiling even though he and all of them worked really hard. "
( TripAdvisor 3 May 2008 )

"As you come down to the gorgeous beach there are men waiting for you to set up your sunbeds for you... they place your towels on your beds for you and move the windbreaks to relieve (you) from the winds that this part of Egypt are quite susceptible to, but in the summer
months this would be most welcomed."
( TripAdvisor 13 January 2008 )

Guest Reviews: on Trip Advisor and Holiday Watchdog -

On the Beach - guests praise sandy beach

"My family and i have just come back from two fantastic weeks in brayka bay. The hotel was excellent and fullfiled all our expectations. We loved the location of the hotel as some of the hotels in marsa alam have jetties that you have to walk along to get into the sea. In Brayka bay you can just walk into the sea as it is situated in a lovely sheltered bay."
( TripAdvisor 17 August 2008 )

"Private sandy beach with access to the coral reefs very safe for children as the sea is shallow, clean beach towels every day."
( HolidayWatchdog May 2008 )

On the Sea - equally upbeat

"I saw so many things in the bay like stingrays, turtles, clown fish, crocodile fish, i could go on and on, everyday i saw something different. It was like swimming in a giant fish tank. "
( TripAdvisor 17 August 2008 )

On the Pool - one complaint about lack of sun beds during peak periods.

"The only down-side I can think of is that if you want a bed by the pool you have to be putting your towel out by 6.30am!! "
( TripAdvisor 12 August 2008 )

On  the Staff - also positive

"The Staff were fantastic, so helpful, friendly and always smiling and greeting you with a hello, opening doors for you, getting you drinks etc and no hint of them wanting a tip. Bar Staff, Reception Staff, Room Boy, Gardeners, Chief's, Waiters, Cleaners all work very hard, they all helped make this a lovely hoilday."
( TripAdvisor 7 July 2008 )

"All hotel staff are friendly and helpful, especially Ali at the pool bar, he could run the bar with his eyes closed!"
( TripAdvisor 12 August 2008 )

"Many resorts in Europe could learn a thing or two about hospitality, and how to make your guests feel welcome by spending a little time here. "
( TripAdvisor 23 January 2008 )

On the food - generally favourable

"Some nights are themed e.g. Chinese food and Egyptian but on remaining nights there is always a good choice and you do not have to eat the same thing every night! The pasta stations are very good and if you enjoy cakes and pastries be prepared to put a few pounds on because they are excellent!"
( TripAdvisor 9 August 2008 )

"We went all inclusive and had a wonderful choice of food. The staff were smiling, helpful and attentive. Food was always kept well covered and dirty plates etc were never allowed to remain on a table for more than a few seconds."
( TripAdvisor 6 March 2008 )

But one customer not happy with overcrowding at peak times -

"The restaurant very over crowded and noisey at peak times a job to get a table many people walked round with their meals trying to find seats, very poor lay out of food area and long queues at times."
( HolidayWatchdog May 2008 )

On the rooms - mixed reviews.

"The rooms are very spacious if there are just a couple of you. You probably will find that the beds are hard and rooms are generally in need of refurbing but is not likely to ruin a holiday if you are already aware of this."
( TripAdvisor 6 August 2008 )

"The rooms are okay but could do with tea and coffee making facilities and they definately need to invest in some decent mattresses. But they are very clean and Wael who cleaned our room was lovely and very helpful. "
( TripAdvisor 9 May 2008 )

"(The room) did not have a safety depost box but these were available behind reception. The shower was very good and there was always plenty of hot water. Only concern was the shower rail was at a very dodgy angle and looked like it might fall off !.......... Plenty of storage space, and the extra pillow we requested from
reception was duly delivered to the room."
( TripAdvisor 22 January 2008 )

On the desert safaris - guests seemed to love camel and horse excursions into the Sahara

"My daughter and i have horses at home so rode two beautiful Arabian horses in the desert to meet a Bedouwin family and drank tea with them. My husband and son followed behind on Camels.  We watched the sun setting before riding home...Heaven."
( TripAdvisor 23 June 2008 )

On the health club - guests seemed very satisfied here too.

"The health Spa was brilliant and I never indulge at home so this was a good opportunity to spoil myself. "
( HolidayWatchdog June 2008 )

Guest Reviews - on Holiday-Truth and Trip Advisor.

On the staff - top notch. Very few complaints and many compliments.

"All the staff were very helpful and friendly . They responded quickly to any requests . For example, our fridge was not working when we arrived but within a couple minutes a new one was fitted. "
( TripAdvisor.com 28 August 2008 )

"The one thing that really struck us more than anything else was how happy the staff were to help - I'd read the reviews that said this but I really was amazed, nothing is too much trouble for them."
( TripAdvisor 28 June 2008 )

"The cleaning staff were amazing, my husband told them i owned my own cleaning company back home and they went into overdrive, the displays we had every day on the bed of towels in the shape of peacocks swans crocs and even a model of me reading my book on the balcony! were amazing i would certainly give them a job with me if they lived over here, if only you could find staff over here as conscientious Britain would be in a better shape."
( TripAdvisor.com 25 July 2008 )

"The Animation Team worked very long hours but were always smiling and their knowledge of the various languages was first class. "
( TripAdvisor 31 May 2008 )

On the beach - mixed

"The most disappointing aspect of this hotel was probably the beach.  The water was very very shallow and we were not allowed to go further into the deeper area.  Hotel workers whistled to come back in.  The sand was also not great, muddy feeling in the wet area and stoney in patches.  There was a ten minute bus ride to a good beach with deeper water and sea turtles and a good reef."
( Holiday-Truth.com June 2007 )

On the rooms - generally favourable

"The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean, each with their own balcony and mosquito net across the window so you can sleep with the patio door open.......We regularly got towel sculptures left on the bed created by the cleaner but they were so good we didn't want to move them to go to bed."
( Holiday-Truth.com April 2007 )

On the food
- mixed

"The food is very poor, and I will pretty much eat anything and like to try food from all over the world. The food at the Calimera is tepid at best, over cooked and dry...."
( TripAdvisor.com 14 September 2008 )

"The food in the restaurant was very good. Always a huge variety. We always went about seven and you could sit where you liked with no problems. The restaurant staff all seemed friendly. You could sit outside if you wanted."
( TripAdvisor.com 1 September 2008 )

"The food at breakfast was good but in the whole week we never found a cleared table to sit at and became quite expert at finding our own cutlery!   As a result of the chaos in the restaurant,we ate mainly in the a la carte restaurants which were excellent and very cheap."
( TripAdvisor.com 18 July 2008 )

Diving Excursions - Highly appreciated

"We did the trip to Dolphin House with Thomas cook. We saw dolphins, lots of dolphins. Unfortunately they were in deep water so we were unable to swim with them.Other people we spoke to at the hotel did swim wiyh them. Seems to be the luck of the draw. Dolphin House reef was very good anyway. You do get fed on the boat."
( TripAdvisor.com 1 September 2008 )

"We also went to the Dolphin House which was the most amazing experience of my life - we were lucky and swam with about 30 spinner dolphins! "
( TripAdvisor.com 28 June 2008 )

Desert Safari -  Also highly rated

"Then on the last evening we went quad-biking - probably best we did this on the last night or we would have gone every day, it was fantastic, but don't wear any clothes you don't want to get filthy, you will end up wearing half the desert, and it's worth the £5 for the headscarf!"
( TripAdvisor.com 28 June 2008 )

Overall - Well liked even in comparison to other top Marsa Alam hotels.

On TripAdvisor the hotel is ranked (as of September 2008 ) seventh out of 45 hotels based on 114 reviews.

The consensus of reviews on HolidayCheck.com
awards the hotel top grades for room quality (5.1 out of a possible 6 stars) and service ( 4.6 ) but scores less highly for location (4.3) and food (4.2).

Dreams Beach Resort

This year our number one five star choice.  Great restaurants,  nice beach, competitive room prices and  friendly and helpful staff.   Vigilant housekeeping employees keep everything spotless. Hotel shops also cheapest in the five star category.   Perfume shop has amazing collection of bottles and glasses and probably the most knowledgeable perfumer in Egypt.   Only very high internet connection prices disappoint.    An hour here will cost you more than some Egyptian internet cafes would charge for eight hours a day for an entire week !

Rooms:
250 including 56 connecting and
has some handicapped accessible rooms.

Room facilities:  Modern, comfortable and spacious and all with sea views, air conditioning, minibar, bathroom with bath tub, shower, bath robes, hair dryer and complimentary shampoos,  in room safes and a balcony.

Opened: 2005.

Location: About 30 minutes (45km) north of Marsa Alam airport.
and about 26km south of El Quseir.

Hotel Facilities:  A mind boggling nine swimming pools including one in the health
club which is heated from November through March.  Plenty of places to chill out including a pool bar, a beach bar, a lobby bar and an oriental cafe called "Shisha Corner".   There's also plenty of choice when it comes to food, especially if you like seafood or pasta.  Besides the main restaurant which serves the usual range of international cuisine there's a beach-side  restaurant called "The Love Boat"  with fantastic views and freshly cooked seafood dishes while there's also an Italian restaurant and a pool side pizzeria.   And for the sporting types there's aerobics, aqua aerobics, billiards, darts, football,  table tennis, volleyball and water polo.

Reviews: on TripAdvisor.com and HolidayWatchdog.com have been mostly positive -

On the beach and sea: - mostly very positive

"The corals are in pristine condition and you can spot turtles, eagle rays, barracuda if you venture a bit further from the pier  (Watch the current though)"
( TripAdvisor.com 10 August 2008 )

"
We went swimming with snorkels in the sea 4 days out of seven. The fish are very impressive. There is a lifeguard on the jetty to make sure all are safe, and he does a good job by being vigilant and telling people if they are going too deep ."
(  HolidayWatchdog.com June 2008 )

"The beaches are wicked, definitely our favourite part. They have sun loungers, hammocks and little wicker tent things which you can get out of the sun in."
( TripAdvisor.com 3 May 2008 )

On the staff: -  also generally favourable.

"Special thanks go to my new friend Hassan who works in the main dining area and made us feel like we were his special guests. Also all the guys at the pool bar who were not only always cheery, but would bring drinks/fruit/cooling towels out to us at our sun loungers around the pool. "
( HolidayWatchdog.com June 2008 )

"The staff are very polite and helpful and will do everything they can to make your stay perfect. We were shown to are room and all luggage was brought for us, the porter even showed us how the aircon and all the appliances worked."
( TripAdvisor.com 26 June 2008 )

"
Staff are so nice and bend over all ways to help you."
( HolidayWatchdog.com May 2008 )

"This is one of the hotels strongest pluses - the guys are wicked and will do
anything for you. "
( TripAdvisor .com  3 May 2008 )

"The staff are fantastic they cant do enough for you as soon as you have got an inch left in your drink a new one is brought and same with you plates as soon as you have finished your meal your plates are cleared"
( TripAdvisor.com  30 March 2008 )

On the rooms: - mostly appreciative.

"The room were very spacious and of an excellent standard."
( TripAdvisor.com  13 June 2008 )

On the food: -  very few complaints.

"We pleased to find the food fantactic ...fresh breads....soups...salads....pasta
dishes made to your liking right in frount of you...and a vast selection of
desserts...the meals each night were different theams for example: Mexican, Italian, oriental etc."
( TripAdvisor.com  30 March 2008 )

"Breakfast Fab, eggs any way you want them cooked fresh by your own Chef lots of bits to go with them plus Pastries to die for etc."
( TripAdvisor.com  14 February 2008 )

"I've been to Egypt twice before and I thought that the food at Dreams Beach was the best so far. The selection was good, the standard was good, in all honesty, if you can't eat well here everyday, you must be a very fussy eater."
( TripAdvisor.com 23 August 2007 )

But there was one note of dissent from a British guest from Liverpool who was
not entirely happy -

"(Although) the food was lovely....... I did miss my bacon sandwiches of a morning."

On the staff:

"The waiters and the chefs who patrol the dining room are really friendly and love to chat if they have the time. Look out for a chef called Tareq, who loves to chat and takes pleasure in explaining what the different foods are. A waiter, named Abu, does a neat trick with a cup and saucer, and caught me on four or five occasions."
                      TripAdvisor 15 February 2009

" if a leaf falls there is somebody to sweep it up straightaway! one day a gardener saw me smelling some flowers and he brought me the same flower every day leaving it on
my balcony for the rest of the holiday."
                      TripAdvisor 1 January 2009

On the food:

"The food was good, i recommend the freshly cooked meat on the bbq outside, there's a different meat every night.  The lamb was top banana!  There's always something you fancy if not just pop over to kids corner for chicken and chips!"

On the sea:

"The variety of fish in the sea is simply amazing. We snorkelled nearly every day and never got bored with it. "
        TripAdvisor 22 December 2008

Though not everyone was happy with the beach

"The beach is fairly coarse sand, and we would recommend taking some beach shoes as it was uncomfortable underfoot."

facilities may, as is the usual case in Marsa Alam, be at an extra charge.

Book Reviews: Lonely Planet says "attractive beach, a good Italian restaurant and diving centre."

Guest Reviews: on TripAdvisor.com more positive than negative with the hotel achieving a ranking of 11 out of 57 in February 2009.  Meanwhile on HolidayCheck.com the hotel scored an average of 4.0 out of 6 stars in February 2009, scoring highest for the hotel, room and sport categories (4.4 stars) but significantly lower in the service category (3.7 stars).

On Diving: "This is a great place for diving. Unspoilt place, fantastic corals, sealife, etc. Dives are also cheap compared to the average costs. Did the Open Water PADI and
was most pleased with the instructor."
              TripAdvisor 31 July 2008

On Rooms: "We had our suitcases brought to our room, which was the most comfortable I have experienced. The beds are to die for. A lovely thick quilt for the cold nights and there was also additional heating and cooling unit if it was needed."
              TripAdvisor 6 February 2008

" Our room is spacious and clean, with a great view of the swimming pools and the Red Sea. There are no mosquitoes here, and since we were on the upper floor, we left the balcony door open every night so we were lulled to sleep by the sound of waves rushing to shore."
               TripAdvisor 6 January 2008

On Food: "There was a very good variety of food at breakfast and evening meal. It was excellent quality, variety and the staff were so friendly. They made omelette and pancakes for you and we did not have one dodgy stomach all holiday."
              TripAdvisor 6 February 2008

But not everyone was happy with the staff -

"The service in the main restaurant at evening meal was atrocious apart from one guy who we tipped the first night and if he was around would always serve us. Most of the waitors would watch you walk in and sit at a table and would not come over and clear your table or ask you for a drink....my partner had to ask every night for clean cutlery and a drink."

Lahami Bay Beach Resort

Rooms: 220

Room facilities: The usual - in other words each has a balcony or terrace
"facing the sea" (presumably meaning a sea view), a sitting area  and a
bathroom with a bath tub and separate toilet cubicle.   As you'd expect
there's also air conditioning, satellite television, a mini-bar, a safe and a
hair dryer.  However each room  is at least a little different as each has a
set of original paintings portraying traditional themes from the Sahara.

Location: currently the southernmost hotel of any size on Egypt's Red
Sea coast near the small town of Berenice and 123km south of Marsa Alam.
It's a 2.5 hour drive (185km) south of Marsa Alam airport.

Hotel Facilities: suprisingly for a hotel of its' size, there are three restaurants.
As usual there's a separate children's pool and play area and a games room
(for all ages) as well as billiards on offer, but less usual for this area there's
also a library with a collection of books in different languages for anyone
seeking a quiet refuge.  A windsurfing centre is located just to the south of the
resort where there is a wide range of equipment available and instruction
offered for beginners.   Divers will be happy too as several first class dive sites
and popular shipwrecks lie a short boat journey away off shore.  There is also
a diving centre to give advice, offer trips and also internationally recognised
courses (PADI and CMAS).

Guest Reviews: Generally favourable with the hotel attaining a TripAdvisor ranking
in February 2009 of 17th out of 57 hotels based on seven reviews.   At the same
time there was only one review on HolidayCheck.com giving the hotel a rather
mediocre rating of 6 out of 10.

On the Food:

"We were on half board. Breakfasts were excellent, with an egg chef on
hand and lots of varieties of bread, cheeses, fruit, fresh yogurt etc. The buffet in the
evening had lots of choice. I loved the first courses - lots of different Middle
Eastern style salads. I was less enthusisatic about the 'International' cuisine main
courses. However the standby was an excellent cook-on-the-spot Pasta Bar. For
lunch there were good quality pizzas and a stunning mezze platter."
                                            TripAdvisor 1 September 2007

On the Sea and Diving:

"Snorkelling on the house reef was like entering a scene from the film "Finding
Nemo". We have snorkelled in many parts of the world but have never seen the
variety and abundance of marine life that we witnessed here so close to the shore.
The fish, coral and marine plants have to be seen to be believed."

Guest Reviews:  It has a good rating on TripAdvisor.com and was ranked 7th out of 57 hotels in February 2009.

On the staff and cleaning:

"Staff could not have been more friendly always trying to be as helpful as possible. Rooms were cleaned well and the whole hotel was always spotless."
            TripAdvisor 4 February 2009

On the beach:

"The beach was nice apart from we had to play sports on there and the sand was very shelly so i had alot of cuts in my feet by the end on my holiday."
            TripAdvisor 30 January 2009

On the grounds:

"This is a newish hotel with a nice layout but the grounds are far from finished. They are working very hard to establish trees, plants and grass but it will take time........There is no rainfall, no soil and a burning sun - conditions that would have any UK gardener throwing himself on the point of his trowel by lunchtime."
           TripAdvisor 18 January 2009

On extra charges:

"Pool table (billiards) cost 5 euros for 1 hour, an absolutely ridiculously high price especially when there really wasn't much else for teenagers to do in the evening. my bill at the end of my holiday was a funominal £190. You also have to pay for all contents in the mini bar including the small bottles of water, for 1 coke 1 sprite and 1 small bottle of water on the night we arrived cost 38 Egyptian pound, approx £5. if you wanted to eat down at the beach restaurant on an evening, that was extra and Chez Pascal was just ridiculously priced...."
            TripAdvisor 9 January 2009

On the food:

"The food was good - very high attention to hygiene and presentation - enough selection for AI (All Inclusive) not to get boring. The AI drinks very good - once again Cocktails served with pride in nice glasses - during the day they are served in plastic cups - buy hey that is for your safety round the pool."
