DREAMS BEACH RESORT  - MARSA ALAM 5*

This year our number one five star choice.  Great restaurants,  nice beach, competitive room prices and  friendly and helpful staff.   Vigilant housekeeping employees keep everything spotless.

The spa is perhaps the most luxurious and best equipped and also one of the largest of any hotel in the region.  Watch the the fitness programme film in the reception, try out the gym machines that cost more than a house in El Quseir or forget life's problems with a massage from one of the spa's  team of international staff  drawn from three continents.   This  palatial spa offers a  progamme of relaxing and invogarating treatments that more than matches other much more expensive luxury hotels we have visited along the Red Sea coast.

In other areas too the hotel scores high on value. The  shops are the cheapest in the five star category.  Don't overlook the perfume shop which has an amazing collection of bottles and glasses and probably the most knowledgeable perfumer in Egypt.

Only high internet connection prices disappoint.

Rooms:
250 including 56 connecting and has some handicapped accessible rooms.

Room facilities:  Modern, comfortable and spacious and all with sea views, air conditioning, minibar, bathroom with bath tub, shower, bath robes, hair dryer and complimentary shampoos,  in room safes and a balcony.

Opened: 2005.

Location: About 30 minutes (45km) north of Marsa Alam airport.
and about 26km south of El Quseir.

Hotel Facilities:  A mind boggling nine swimming pools including one in the health club which is heated from November through March.  Plenty of places to chill out including a pool bar, a beach bar, a lobby bar and an oriental cafe called "Shisha Corner".   There's also plenty of choice when it comes to food, especially if you like seafood or pasta.  Besides the main restaurant which serves the usual range of international cuisine there's a beach-side  restaurant called "The Love Boat"  with fantastic views and freshly cooked seafood dishes while there's also an Italian restaurant and a pool side pizzeria.   And for the sporting types there's aerobics, aqua aerobics, billiards, darts, football,  table tennis, volleyball and water polo.

Perfume shop: A special mention should be made of the well managed and impressively stocked perfume bazar just off the reception.   There was a far wider choice of perfume bottles and perfumes than I've seen in the hundred or so shops I've visited in Egypt.  And the salesman really knows his perfumes.  Not too expensive either.       Opening times can vary but normally from around 11.30am to around 11.30pm.  Ring the manager Sama on 0127934731 inside Egypt or on 00 20 127934731 from outside Egypt.

Reviews: on TripAdvisor.com and HolidayWatchdog.com have been mostly positive -

On the beach and sea: - mostly very positive

"The corals are in pristine condition and you can spot turtles, eagle rays, barracuda if you venture a bit further from the pier  (Watch the current though)"
( TripAdvisor.com 10 August 2008 )

"
We went swimming with snorkels in the sea 4 days out of seven. The fish are very impressive. There is a lifeguard on the jetty to make sure all are safe, and he does a good job by being vigilant and telling people if they are going too deep ."
(  HolidayWatchdog.com June 2008 )

"The beaches are wicked, definitely our favourite part. They have sun loungers, hammocks and little wicker tent things which you can get out of the sun in."
( TripAdvisor.com 3 May 2008 )

On the staff: -  also generally favourable.

"Special thanks go to my new friend Hassan who works in the main dining area and made us feel like we were his special guests. Also all the guys at the pool bar who were not only always cheery, but would bring drinks/fruit/cooling towels out to us at our sun loungers around the pool. "
( HolidayWatchdog.com June 2008 )

"The staff are very polite and helpful and will do everything they can to make your stay perfect. We were shown to are room and all luggage was brought for us, the porter even showed us how the aircon and all the appliances worked."
( TripAdvisor.com 26 June 2008 )

"
Staff are so nice and bend over all ways to help you."
( HolidayWatchdog.com May 2008 )

"This is one of the hotels strongest pluses - the guys are wicked and will do anything for you. "
( TripAdvisor .com  3 May 2008 )

"The staff are fantastic they cant do enough for you as soon as you have got an inch left in your drink a new one is brought and same with you plates as soon as you have finished your meal your plates are cleared"
( TripAdvisor.com  30 March 2008 )

On the rooms: - mostly appreciative.

"The room were very spacious and of an excellent standard."
( TripAdvisor.com  13 June 2008 )

On the food: -  Mixed reviews inlcuding a  few complaints but when I went I found the main restaurant offered an amazing choice of freshly cooked and prepared food.  I would be tempted to agree with one reviewer who wrote "If you an't eat well here everyday, you must be a very fussy eater."  And for those Brits who can't do without egg and chips - either smuggle your own frozen chips through customs or ask the chef an hour or so before lunch time.  I found that even the staff canteen served food above the standard of some tourist class Egyptian hotels !

"We pleased to find the food fantactic ...fresh breads....soups...salads....pasta dished made to your liking right in frount of you...and a vast selection of desserts...the meals each night were different theams for example: Mexican, Italian, oriental etc."
( TripAdvisor.com  30 March 2008 )

"Breakfast Fab, eggs any way you want them cooked fresh by your own Chef lots of bits to go with them plus Pastries to die for etc."
( TripAdvisor.com  14 February 2008 )

"I've been to Egypt twice before and I thought that the food at Dreams Beach was the best so far. The selection was good, the standard was good, in all honesty, if you can't eat well here everyday, you must be a very fussy eater."
( TripAdvisor.com 23 August 2007 )

But there was one note of dissent from a British guest from Liverpool who was not entirely happy -

"(Although) the food was lovely....... I did miss my bacon sandwiches of a morning."

The hotel's  Perfume bazar is a great place to buy excellent quality cheap perfumes and learn a lot of about perfume too.

Quite a few reviewers praised the food.

There are too many swimming pools to count.
